October Denim Days for Charity – The Legal Project

 In News

As we welcome October, we also welcome a new charity for our October Denim Days. (You can learn all about our Denim Days for Charity here.) This month our randomly chosen charity is The Legal Project, the perfect charity for us to also acknowledge Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

We are very proud to have such a dedicated organization like The Legal Project right here in the Capital District.  The Legal Project was formed to help victims of domestic violence who didn’t qualify for assigned counsel, but who also were unable to afford attorney.  The Legal Project provides crucial legal support in many areas, including bankruptcy, campus and domestic violence, crime victim assistance, immigration problems, and foreclosures, to those who have “traditionally had difficulty in obtaining legal assistance, including the working poor, women, immigrants and the LGBTQ community.”  Attorneys at The Legal Project provide legal services pro bono for those eligible, and also at reduced rates for those who may not be eligible (due to income or property) for pro bono work.

Attorneys can donate their services for pro bono work at The Legal Project throughout the year. There are nearly 300 attorneys who work alongside The Legal Project throughout the year. On October 24th, 2019, they will host the 24th Annual Reception and Auction at the Hart Theater Lounge at The Egg in Albany. At this event, The Legal Project’s volunteers and supporters are honored, and money is raised to support their programs.  This annual event includes delicious food from local restaurants and an open bar, with all food and drink donated by supporters of The Legal Project.

Please help us in supporting a fantastic cause this month – every dollar donated makes a difference!
