Attorney at Law, Principal

Contact Deborah Slezak

Deb’s practice is concentrated primarily in the areas of elder law, real estate, estate planning and administration.  In her 13 years of practice, she has lectured on topics of elder law and estate planning for the NYS Bar Association, businesses and many community groups.  She has chaired and lectured at the New York State Bar Association's Basics of Elder Law program several times as well as once for the Advanced Document Drafting for the Elder Law Practitioner. In addition, she has updated the course materials for the Practical Skills Course for Estate Planning in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005 relative to Surrogate Health Care Decision Making.

The choice of elder law, real estate, estate planning and administration as her primary areas of practice comes from her desire to help others in her community.  She receives satisfaction from solving the very real problems of families and individuals who may be facing nursing home placement, applying for Medicaid or dealing with the death or disability of a loved one.  Deb also enjoys interacting with people and these practice areas are rich with the opportunity to meet with a variety of people on a daily basis.

In addition to her private practice, Deb has been the Town Attorney for the Town of Amsterdam since October of 1996.  She became Town Attorney for the Town of Florida in 2009.  An active community volunteer, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Amsterdam YMCA since 1997 and is past President.  In February, 2009 she was inducted as a Trustee of the Foundation of St. Mary’s Hospital.

Deb is a member of the New York State Bar Association (Trust and Estate and Elder Law Sections) and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Elder Law Section. She is a member of the Schenectady County and Montgomery County Bar Associations and the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York. She also currently serves on the Planned Giving Committee of the Foundation of St. Mary’s Hospital.

A life long resident of the Capital District, Deb is a graduate of Skidmore College and Albany Law School.
